Mechanical Engineering department was established in 1990. The intake of UG Course is 120. The department has also introduced post graduate course in Mechanical Engg. Design approved by AICTE with effect from 2002-2003. The intake of PG Course is 25. The department took initiative in holding National Symposium on cryogenics in 1999 and IPRoMM in 2000. The international conference on IFToMM was organised on 11th to 14th July, 2006. The department has highly qualified staff with industrial experience. Department undertakes R&D activities and consultancy assignments extensively. The students of the department also excel in the University and secure merit ranks every year. The head of the department is Dr. G. K. Awari. The Central workshop with an area of 40,000 sqft. Has a separate building. The workshop has six major sections namely, fitting, carpentry, welding, smithy, foundry, machine. It is fully equipped with machines which ranges from conventional engine lathe to contemporary CNC machine. The Department has excellent in all the fields and gained the reputation in short span of time. The Department is also recongnised as a approved Research Center, RTM, Nagpur University. At present 25 candidates from various regions of state are pursuing Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. Three staff members of the Department are recongnised as a Research Supervisor for guiding the Ph.D. of Mechanical Engineering under the faculty of Engineering and Technology. The Department is accrediated by NBA, AICTE, New Delhi.
M.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering Design) Priyadarshini College of Engineering & Architecture, Nagpur is the first self financed college running a full time post- graduate programme M.Tech. in core Mechanical Engineering field in R.T.M. Nagpur University area. The nature of programme is full-time with duration of course being Four semesters (i.e. two years) and the intake is 25. This is an unique course of its kind in Central India, specifically in Nagpur & Amravati University areas. The main objective of the course is to provide an opportunity to graduate engineers for enhancing their skills which will open career avenues to them in R&D Institutes, Engineering multinational companies and Teaching field. Salient features of the course are :
Collaboration The institute has established collaborations with 45 leading organizations grouped under four categories. 1) Private Organisation, 2) Public sector undertaking, 3) CSIR Institutes and 4) Academia. Under these prominent organisations are Indorama Synthetics (India) Ltd., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., ACC Machinery, ACC Refractories, KEC International, Hindustan Levers, ISPAT Industries Ltd., DCL Polyesters Ltd., Lloyds Steels Ltd., Electrolux, MSEB, WCL, Ashoka Layland, BHEL, CAT Indore (a Unit of BARC Bombay), CICR, CMRI, AMM (IIT Chennai), International Federation of Theory of Machines & Mechanisms and others. These collaborations are ment for PCE organising Speciality Short Term Courses, Sponsored or mutual projects, consultancy assignments, testing works etc. These collaborations will be also useful for getting assignments for industry oriented dissertations for the post-graduate course in Mechanical Engineering Design. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
